Going Back to Cali: West Coast Rap

Rap has always been a part of the music scene in the West Coast and famous rappers like Snoop Dogg have been able to make their name. However, people have been talking about the “rivalry” between the West Coast and East Coast rappers and it seems like there really is no point. Music is certainly subjective and so there was never any point of the rivalry.

The Rise and Fall Of The Hyphy Movement

The “hyphy” movement in the Bay Area was a trend that really took over the West Coast. People were idolizing rappers like Mac Dre and E-40 in a time where Bay Area music was making its way to the mainstream. Rappers like Mac Rob and Rymelyte were able to really help the underground scene build up and there plenty of good rappers to come out of the Bay.

Though the hyphy movement may never get back to its peak, it will forever be a part of music history for the Bay Area. Most people who went through the movement will admit that it was a very fun phase that truly needed to end despite the large fan base that the music sub-genre had in the Bay.
